Track Battens use a track-and-clip fixing system. A continuous Batten Track fixes to the substructure first, setting the alignment for the whole run before a single batten is placed, then Batten Track Clips space along it and battens press on until they click. Available as a direct-mount track for walls and ceilings, or a suspended track that integrates with third-party ceiling grid systems.
This fixing system is a strong fit for ceiling batten runs where consistent spacing and alignment are priorities, interior wall installations where installation speed matters to the timeline, feature walls wanting battens set on an angle for a striking finish and projects integrating with an existing suspended ceiling grid.
Track Battens share the same aluminum construction and architectural-grade finishes as the rest of Knotwood's batten range. Because the track sets the whole run's alignment before a single batten is fixed, spacing stays consistent from the first batten to the last.
Track Battens are available across 1-inch and 2-inch suites, with three Batten Track Clip sizes to match. Battens can be installed straight or set on an angle for a feature finish, and a dedicated suspended track (KEBTS) integrates with proprietary suspended ceiling grid systems.
The Batten Track fixes to the substructure first, then Batten Track Clips slide onto it and lock at the desired spacing, each batten presses onto its clips until it clicks into place, concealing every fixing point behind the batten face.
Where batten ends are exposed, purpose-designed end caps tap into position to finish the run, and can be secured with a metal adhesive if required.
The suspended track (KEBTS) integrates with a proprietary suspended ceiling grid via its top cross rail and locking key. Cut the track to suit the grid length, secure it to the grid, slide Batten Track Clips on and position them, then press battens into place until they click.
The direct-mount track (KEBT) fixes straight to the substructure. Top hat section, metal hollow section, wood, masonry and concrete are all suitable. Battens can be set straight or on an angle for a striking feature wall finish.
Inspiration
Maison combines the luxury of expanded living with custom detailing, making the most of its corner allotment to showcase Knotwood soffits as a striking architectural feature that frames the stunning city and river views.
Vary batten spacing to create distinctive visual effects.
Combine different shapes and sizes to craft a unique look.
Mix and match different timber colors to create realistic and dynamic timber looks.
Track Battens use a track-and-clip fixing system. The track is fixed to the wall or ceiling framing first, establishing the alignment reference for the full run. Individual battens then clip into the track from the face side, locking into consistent spacing without individual measurement at each fixing point. The system is designed to make ceiling and wall batten installations faster and more precisely aligned.
The track is secured to the wall or ceiling substrate first, creating a continuous alignment guide. Each batten then clips directly onto the track, with the spacing built into the track pitch. This separates the framing and setting-out work from the batten installation work. Because the alignment reference is set before any batten is placed, consistent spacing becomes a result of the process rather than something each installer has to manage individually across the run.
Track Battens are a strong fit for ceiling batten runs where consistent spacing and alignment are priorities, interior wall installations where installation speed matters to the project timeline, commercial applications where individual panels may need to be removed for access or replacement and any project where a precise, repeatable fixing method is needed across a long run. The system suits builders and installers managing large batten runs.
By fixing the track to the substrate first, the full alignment of the run is set in a single step. Battens clip in sequentially against that fixed reference, eliminating the need to measure and adjust each batten’s position individually. The clip connection also means individual battens can be removed and replaced without disturbing adjacent battens. On large ceiling or wall runs, this sequence significantly reduces on-site adjustment time and keeps the finished result consistent from the first batten to the last.
All three share the same aluminum construction and architectural-grade finishes. Track Battens prioritize installation speed and consistent spacing through a track-and-clip method, making them well suited to ceiling and interior wall runs. Clip Battens focus on a seamless, no-visible-fastener aesthetic for facades and screens. Panel Battens are engineered for large-span consistency on wide commercial facades and ceilings.
Track Battens are positioned for ceiling and interior wall applications, and for facade screen walls where installation speed or panel accessibility is important. Requirements for exterior wall assemblies are set by the adopted building code in your jurisdiction, published by the International Code Council, and fixing requirements vary with substrate and exposure. Contact our team with your project details and we will confirm the right system and fixing method for the application.
Track Battens share the same architectural-grade finish range as the rest of the Knotwood batten system, including sublimated wood grain and solid powder coated options. See our finishes page for the current range.

The direct-mount track (KEBT) fixes straight to a wall or ceiling substructure and is the standard option for most installations. The suspended track (KEBTS) is designed to integrate with a proprietary suspended ceiling grid, connecting through its top cross rail and locking key rather than fixing to framing. Both accept the same Batten Track Clips and the same batten profiles, so the choice comes down to what the battens are being mounted to rather than the finished look.
The Batten Track fixes to top hat section, metal hollow section, wood framing, masonry and concrete. Because the track carries the fixing and the battens clip onto it, the substrate only needs to support the track itself rather than each individual batten. Fixing centers vary with the substrate and the size of batten being used, and engineering specifications are available for specific and regional substructure fixing. Send us your project details and we will confirm the right fixing method.
Track Battens are manufactured from 6063 T6 extruded aluminum alloy and are tested to ASTM E136, ASTM E84 Class A and CAN/ULC-S114. The finish is a sublimated wood grain or solid powder coat applied to the aluminum, so the product delivers a wood look without introducing combustible material into the assembly. Where a project has a specific fire requirement, contact our team and we will provide the relevant test documentation for the profile you are specifying.
Purpose-designed end caps tap into the open end of the batten to close it off, and can be secured with a metal adhesive where the installation calls for it. End caps are matched to the batten profile and finish, so the closed end reads as part of the run rather than as a separate component. On ceiling installations where batten ends terminate into a wall or bulkhead, end caps are not usually required.
Track Battens need periodic washing with a soft broom and water, using a pH-neutral detergent. No sealing, oiling, staining or repainting is required at any stage, which is the practical difference between an aluminum batten and a wood one. Interior ceiling and wall installations generally need very little attention beyond occasional dusting. Wash-down frequency on exterior runs depends on the exposure of the site.
