What makes Panel Battens different from a standard batten system?

Panel Battens combine cladding coverage and batten detail in one system. The overlapping Batten Panel forms a continuous backing behind the battens, so the run reads as a single surface rather than as battens fixed over whatever is behind them. That backing is a visual and setout element rather than a weatherproofing layer, so the wall still needs its own weather barrier detailed to the code. How do I ensure consistent gaps between battens on a panel?

The brackets on each Batten Panel are set at the factory, so the spacing is locked in before the panel reaches site and repeats identically down the run. That is the point of the system: on a long facade or ceiling, consistency across the whole span matters more than the ability to adjust panel by panel. If a project needs a spacing other than the standard, tell us at specification stage and our team will confirm what is available.

Are there resources for panel weights?

Panel and batten weights vary by profile and panel size, and on a large ceiling or a cantilevered soffit the total load is worth checking against the supporting structure before anything is ordered. Are Panel Battens suitable for residential projects?

Panel Battens can be used on residential projects with large facade or ceiling spans, but their engineering is primarily relevant at commercial scale. For typical residential batten runs, Clip Battens or Flip Battens may be a more practical fit.

How do Panel Battens compare with Clip Battens and Track Battens?

All three share the same aluminum construction and architectural-grade finishes. Panel Battens are distinguished by their larger-span engineering for wide facades and ceilings, backed by a solid overlapping panel. Clip Battens focus on a concealed bracket-and-clip fixing for a seamless, no-visible-fastener finish. Track Battens use a track-and-clip system designed for installation speed and precise, consistent spacing on ceiling and wall runs.

Are Panel Battens fire rated for use in high-risk zones?

Aluminum is non-combustible under ASTM E136, and Knotwood profiles are ASTM E84 Class A rated and CAN/ULC-S114 fire-tested, so the batten does not contribute fuel to a fire. That does not make the wall compliant on its own, because fire performance is assessed on the complete assembly, including the substructure, the backing panel and the cavity behind it. Those requirements come from the applicable I-Code as adopted by your jurisdiction, with a state overlay such as California’s Chapter 7A in Wildland-Urban Interface areas. How do I maintain Panel Battens?

Yes. Panel Battens are designed for both new builds and retrofit, and can be installed over an existing structure using top hat section, metal hollow section or wood framing. The overlapping panel also covers minor substrate imperfections, which makes it a practical upgrade where the existing facade is sound but not flat.

What warranty do Panel Battens carry and what does it cover?

The coating is applied to AAMA 2604, and because it is applied in the factory rather than on site there is no recoating or resealing cycle over the life of the installation.

Panel Battens are manufactured in Phoenix, Arizona from recyclable aluminum, using VOC-free powder coatings and non-chromate pre-treatments.
