What is the Flip Battens system?

Flip Battens feature two halves that snap together to create a batten. The universal profile allows each half to flip and connect onto itself, forming a rectangular hollow box section. They are the slimmest profiles in Knotwood’s range, perfect for saving space in small or narrow areas. Space them apart or butt them together for a panel look.

How are Flip Battens installed?

Flip Battens use a two-part system. Cut the first half to the desired length and secure it to the substructure with stainless steel fasteners. Prepare an identical length as the cover, position it so the outer upstands face each other, angle one side into place, and press firmly until the flip profiles click together.

What substructure is required for Flip Battens installation?

Flip Battens require a support surface with substructure to ensure appropriate support and attachment. This may include top hat section, metal hollow sections, or timber sections. The system is suitable for retrofit applications and can be installed over existing materials when the underlying structure is sound and properly prepared.

What Flip Battens profiles are available?

Knotwood Flip Battens are available in a range of customizable depths, widths, and angles to suit different design requirements. Available profiles include 38x16mm, 65x16mm, 100x16mm, 150x16mm, 200x25mm, 50x25mm, 60x40mm, 100x40mm, and 100x75mm. All profiles come in 18.5′ lengths.

What fasteners should be used for Flip Battens installation?

Use 304 or 316 grade stainless steel fasteners for Flip Battens. In non-marine zones, hot-dip galvanized fasteners may be used. An insulating barrier such as a rubber or neoprene washer is required when installing Flip Battens.
