Knotwood aluminum interior wall panels and profiles are used in residential and commercial interiors as feature wall cladding and batten screens. The same profiles used on building exteriors work equally well inside, so a project can carry one finish and profile through from the facade to the entry hall to the interior feature wall.
Homeowners use them for a warm, natural-look living area feature wall. Architects and designers specify them for hotel lobbies, restaurant interiors and retail environments where a convincing wood-look is wanted without the upkeep. Commercial fit-outs use them in reception areas, corridors and office interiors where durability and easy cleaning matter in high-traffic spaces.
Wood and natural stone feature walls absorb moisture, stain and need periodic sealing to hold their look. Knotwood’s aluminum wall panels do not. They clean with a damp cloth and read convincingly as real wood from normal interior viewing distances, without the sealing and refinishing a natural material needs.
Knotwood Batten Systems create a slatted interior wall surface that partially reveals the wall behind, with depth and shadow that shift with viewing angle and light. They work well for hospitality interiors and residential feature walls where texture is part of the design.
Knotwood Cladding Systems form a clean, continuous interior wall surface. They work well for feature walls where a contemporary, wood-look finish is the priority.
Aluminum interior wall panels are extruded aluminum profiles used as feature wall cladding, accent panels and batten screens inside residential and commercial buildings. They are used in living areas, hotel lobbies, restaurant interiors, retail environments, office reception areas, hallways and commercial fit-outs. The same profiles used on building exteriors work equally well inside, allowing a consistent finish to carry from the facade through to interior spaces.
An aluminum batten wall uses spaced linear profiles mounted on a wall surface, creating a slatted panel that partially reveals the wall behind. The depth and shadow of the battens changes with the viewing angle and light conditions, giving the surface more visual interest than flat painted drywall. Batten walls are common in commercial interiors, hospitality spaces and residential homes where a textured feature wall is part of the design.
Aluminum interior cladding delivers the same warm, wood-look aesthetic as real wood wall panels without the maintenance drawbacks. Wood can swell, mark and change color in high-traffic or high-moisture interior environments. Aluminum does not absorb moisture, does not stain and does not require periodic sealing. It cleans with a damp cloth and needs no refinishing cycle.
Yes. The wood grain finish reads convincingly as real wood from normal interior viewing distances. It is specified for residential living areas, hotel lobbies, restaurant interiors and retail environments where the natural material aesthetic is important but the practical demands of the space make real wood a maintenance burden.
Yes. Aluminum does not absorb moisture, which makes it well suited to bathrooms, kitchens, laundries and other high-moisture interior spaces where wood and standard wall linings can warp or stain over time. The finish wipes clean, so steam, splashes and cooking residue do not build into a stain the way they do on a porous surface. In a commercial kitchen or a hotel bathroom, that also means the wall can be cleaned on the same schedule as everything else in the room, without a special product or a separate maintenance routine.
Aluminum interior wall panels are used in commercial interiors for reception areas, corridor feature walls, retail spaces, restaurant and cafe fit-outs, hotel lobbies and office interiors. The durability and ease of cleaning are practical advantages in high-traffic commercial spaces. The consistent finish and architectural-grade quality of the profiles suit spaces where the fit-out has to stand up to constant traffic without a refinishing cycle.
Yes. Aluminum profiles used on interior ceilings can be matched to the wall profiles in both profile type and finish, so the transition from wall to ceiling reads as a single continuous surface. This approach is used in contemporary residential and commercial interiors to reduce visual interruption at the wall-to-ceiling junction and create a more cohesive, designed interior.
Cladding delivers a continuous, finished wall surface with a clean, monolithic look and the warmth of a wood finish. Battens create a layered, dimensional wall with shadow lines and rhythm, which suits feature walls, reception areas, hallways and any space where texture is part of the design intent. Both use modular aluminum profiles with concealed fixings and architectural-grade finishes. The choice depends on the design intent for the space.
Yes. Aluminum interior wall panels do not require periodic sealing, painting or refinishing. They clean easily with a damp cloth and resist the daily wear, humidity variation and occasional impact that commercial interiors see. This durability makes them a practical choice for high-traffic areas such as hotel corridors, reception spaces and retail fit-outs where a maintained appearance is important but maintenance time is limited.
Yes. The Knotwood range is designed for cross-application use. The same aluminum profiles that clad a commercial facade can be used on interior feature walls with the same finish and concealed fixing system. This is a specification advantage on projects where material consistency between the exterior and interior is part of the design brief.
Aluminum is non-combustible as a material. Interior wall and ceiling finishes in the US are classified by flame spread and smoke developed index under ASTM E84, and the International Building Code sets which class is required based on the occupancy and the location within the building. Corridors and exits carry stricter requirements than a feature wall in an open space. Send us your occupancy type and where the panels sit in the building, and our technical team will confirm the documentation for your project.
Panels and battens fix to a substructure attached to the existing wall rather than directly to the drywall, which is what allows the system to run over an uneven surface without the wall being made good first. Fixings are concealed, so the finished face shows no fasteners. Because the substructure carries the load, the fixing method depends on what is behind the drywall: a fixing into steel studs differs from one into wood framing or masonry. On a commercial fit-out, the substructure also has to be coordinated with services in the wall cavity. Send us your wall build-up and our technical team will confirm the substructure and fixing detail.
Backed by a standard 15-year warranty and up to 25 years on selected finishes. See our warranty page for the terms that apply to your profile and project. Interior applications sit in a controlled environment compared to a facade, so terms differ from an exterior installation. Our sales team can confirm what applies before you specify.
Inspiration
The Ridge rises nearly 400 feet above sea level in Port Stephens, a three-level escape of grandeur and tranquility. Curved forms soften its rectilinear concrete and stone structure, while Queensland Walnut aluminum battens flow seamlessly inside and out, uniting architecture and landscape with sculptural precision.
Inspiration
In a coveted dress circle position, Toop frames sweeping ocean and mountain views with sculptural presence. The residence reimagines Palm Springs modernism with bold, textural forms. Linear White Ash battens veil the façade, forming a composition of shadow, texture and sleek, seamless lines.
