Knotwood aluminum fencing uses architectural screen panels rather than pickets. The panel gives visual privacy across its full height, which is the difference between a fence you look through and a fence you look at. Homeowners use it for front yard boundaries, side boundaries, courtyard walls and garden screens, particularly on contemporary homes where the fence is part of what the street sees. Commercial and hospitality projects use it on property boundaries, courtyard enclosures, resort perimeters and entry zones.
Homeowners use screen fencing for pool surrounds, front yard boundaries and side boundary fencing, especially in contemporary homes where the fence is a visible part of the front facade presentation. Commercial and hospitality projects use it on property boundaries, courtyard enclosures, resort perimeters and commercial entry zones.
A picket fence gives privacy in stripes, with gaps you can see straight through. A Knotwood screen fence uses batten or louver profiles set within a post-and-rail frame, so the privacy runs the full height of the panel, and how much of it you get is set by the spacing between profiles. Gate panels are built to match the fence, self-supporting within their own frame, for single gates, double driveway gates, and pedestrian gates.
Knotwood Screen Systems use batten profiles within a post-and-rail frame for full-height privacy. They work well for boundary fencing, courtyard walls and garden screens, with gate panels matching the same design.
Knotwood aluminum fencing uses screen panels rather than standard pickets or railings. Most aluminum fencing sold in the U.S. is a picket or railing system, designed as an open barrier you can see through. A Knotwood screen fence is a different thing: batten profiles set into a frame to give a continuous private face, specified as part of the outdoor design rather than bought as a stock height off a shelf. If what you want is a privacy screen that happens to be a fence, this is the product. If what you want is an open boundary marker, a picket system will do it for less.
A Knotwood screen fence uses batten or louver profiles set within a post-and-rail frame. The screen provides visual privacy across its full height, which an open picket fence does not. The level of privacy depends on the spacing of the batten profiles: closer spacing gives more privacy, wider spacing allows more airflow and light while still defining the boundary. Spacing is decided at the specification stage.
Knotwood aluminum fencing is used for front yard boundaries, side boundaries, courtyard walls and garden screens. It is popular in contemporary homes where the fence is a visible part of the front facade presentation and needs to deliver both privacy and an architectural quality that standard picket fencing does not provide.
Yes. Aluminum screen gate panels match the fence screen design. A Geofix gate panel is self-supporting within its frame and works for single gates, double driveway gates and pedestrian gates. The gate panel uses the same screen profiles and finishes as the fence panels, so the fence and gate read as a single, cohesive system across the property boundary.
No. Knotwood screen panels are not supplied, tested, or certified as pool safety barriers. Pool barrier requirements in the U.S. are set by the International Swimming Pool and Spa Code and IRC Appendix G, as adopted and amended by the local jurisdiction, and they govern barrier height, gap sizing, gate self-closing and self-latching hardware, and the absence of any foothold a child could climb. Horizontal members within the barrier height are the usual reason a decorative screen fails that last test. Where a screen is used in a pool area, it sits outside or behind the certified barrier as a privacy or design element, and the barrier itself is supplied by a pool fencing specialist. Confirm the requirement with your local building department before anything is ordered.
A wood fence is exposed along its full length to sun, rain, soil moisture at the base, and insects, and it needs staining or painting on a cycle to stay ahead of that. Aluminum does not absorb moisture, does not warp or split, and is not a food source for insects. The powder coated finish is applied in the factory, so there is no site painting or sealing to keep up with on what is often the longest single run of material on a property. The trade-off is the same one that applies across the range: a screen fence is specified, made to size, and installed by a trade, not bought in standard panels and cut on site.
Available in the full Knotwood finish range. Black and charcoal powder coated finishes are the common choice for contemporary residential fencing, where the fence is meant to recede and let the planting or the house do the work. Wood grain finishes suit projects where the fence is part of a wood-look outdoor scheme running through decking, a pergola or facade cladding in the same finish. Because a boundary fence takes sun on both faces and is usually the longest continuous element on the property, it is worth ordering the whole run in one batch. The current U.S. range is set out on our finishes page.
Yes. Commercial aluminum fencing is used on property boundaries, courtyard enclosures and entry zones. Hospitality and resort perimeter fencing commonly uses screen fence systems where the fence is part of the overall outdoor design rather than a purely functional barrier. The durability and low maintenance of aluminum are practical advantages at commercial scale where fence areas are large and maintenance access is infrequent.
Yes. Using the same screen profile and finish on the fence, balustrade infill and facade screening elements creates a visually consistent outdoor scheme. Knotwood aluminum fencing is built on the same architectural screen range as the balustrade and partition systems, so the same profile and finish carry across multiple elements on the same property.
Yes. Aluminum fencing in a screen format is popular for front yard boundaries on contemporary homes. The screen provides visual privacy and an architectural quality that an open picket fence cannot. The full-height privacy and clean profile suit homes where the fence is a visible part of the street-facing presentation. The low maintenance of aluminum is a practical advantage in a position that faces direct sun and weather from every direction.
Retail privacy fence panels are sold in standard heights as self-install kits, which is exactly right when the job is to close off a side boundary quickly and cheaply. Knotwood screen fence panels are extruded aluminum batten profiles with concealed fixings, made to the run and installed by a trade. The difference is not that one is a fence and the other is not. It is that one is a stock product and the other is specified to the project, with the finish, spacing and panel heights set to suit the rest of the outdoor scheme. Which is right depends on whether the fence is meant to disappear or to be part of the design.
Posts are set into the ground or fixed to a slab, depending on the site. In ground, posts are concreted into footings sized for the panel height and the wind exposure of the position. On a slab, deck or retaining wall, posts are base-plated and fixed down with anchors suited to the substrate. A screen panel presents a solid face to the wind, which means it carries more load than an open picket fence of the same height, so the footing design and post spacing matter more here than on a see-through system. Send us the panel height, the run length and the site conditions and our team will confirm the setout.
Inspiration
This Main Beach residence combines privacy with refined luxury. Grey besser block walls frame teak brown vertical gates and upper level screening, showcasing outdoor patios and Canary Island palms. A pergola shaded entertainment area and Pavilion White aluminum fencing complete a harmonious, coastal composition of balance, proportion and thoughtful design.
