How Knotwood Supports Sustainability and a Healthy Earth

How Knotwood Supports Sustainability and a Healthy Earth

Research shows that UK consumers are increasingly seeking out environmentally responsible brands when making purchasing decisions. At Knotwood UK, sustainable practices are at the heart of everything we do, from the way we manufacture, to the products we create.

Sustainability is Sensible

Aluminium is one of the most sustainable building materials available. Lightweight, durable, and infinitely recyclable, it saves energy in production, transport, and re-use. In fact, around 75% of all aluminium ever produced is still in use today.

Knotwood products are designed to look and feel like traditional timber but without the environmental impact of deforestation or the maintenance demands of wood. Built to last, they help reduce waste and contribute to a lower carbon footprint across their lifetime.

In Europe, the carbon intensity of aluminium production is now less than half what it was 30 years ago, with further reductions being made year on year. Aluminium’s durability, recyclability, and efficiency in transport make it a truly sustainable choice for construction.

Our powder coatings are applied in an environmentally low-impact facility and are free from volatile organic compounds (VOCs), making them safer for both people and the planet compared to traditional paints and stains.

Resilience is Key

Knotwood aluminium building products have a lifespan of up to 40 years, whereas a typical wood installation would likely need replacing at least twice in that same period.

Minimal upkeep is required, often, natural rainfall is enough to keep products looking fresh. This reduces the need for environmentally harmful paints, stains, or cleaning chemicals, all of which can release toxins into the air, soil, and water.

Knotwood aluminium is also resistant to:

  • Rot and warping
  • Insect damage
  • Fire and corrosion

This resilience not only saves money and resources but also provides long-lasting safety, performance, and style.

Recycling Helps Everyone

Aluminium has one of the highest recycling rates of any material in the UK, requiring just 5% of the original energy to recycle compared to producing it from raw materials.

At Knotwood, we use a percentage of post-consumer recycled aluminium and reintegrate scrap metal from our own manufacturing back into the process. This creates virtually no landfill waste, while conserving natural resources and maximising efficiency.

Our commitment to circularity means that Knotwood products have no real “end of life” the aluminium can be recycled and repurposed indefinitely.

Because We Care

Sustainability isn’t just a buzzword, it’s essential to the long-term health of our planet. By creating durable, recyclable, and low-maintenance aluminium systems, Knotwood supports eco-friendly construction and helps businesses and homeowners make sustainable choices.

We’re proud of the steps we’ve taken to ensure our products are both high-quality and environmentally responsible. From design through to production, installation, and beyond, sustainability is at the core of everything we do.
