Sustainability.

Better For Everyone

With climate change intensifying, it’s our responsibility to operate sustainably. Our mission is to minimise negative impacts on the environment in order to create positive outcomes for people, the planet, and future generations. Driven by this mission, we have implemented a range of sustainability initiatives across the company.

We recognise that global sustainability challenges require collective action, but we’re committed to doing our part to support worldwide efforts towards sustainable manufacturing and construction. We take these challenges seriously and are continually introducing diverse sustainability initiatives across the company. Here are some of our recent actions.

Environmental Sustainability

Making a difference.

Solar Power

Our 150kW solar system generates over 200,000 kWh annually, significantly cutting our reliance on non-renewable energy and reducing our carbon footprint by approximately 140 tonnes per year.

Closed loop water system

Since implementing our closed-loop water system, we’ve been saving an incredible 7.2 million liters of water annually. This innovative system recycles and reuses water throughout our manufacturing processes, significantly reducing consumption and minimising wastewater discharge.

Low-Emissivity (Low-E) Coatings

We use Low-E coatings on all our aluminium products. These coatings are not only better for the environment but can improve energy efficiency in buildings by reducing heat transfer, making our products compliant for sustainable construction projects.

Sustainable Waste Management

Every year, tons of our scrap metal from production is recycled to be re-melted and reused. This process minimises our waste and maximises the reuse of sustainable materials.

Biodegradable Packaging Solutions

We have greatly reduced the use of single-use plastics for packaging by introducing biodegradable solutions. Our packaging materials naturally decompose, helping to reduce environmental impact and waste.

Economic Sustainability

Our collective vision.

Durability and Longevity of Aluminium Products

Aluminium is resistant to corrosion and weathering, which extends the lifespan of our products and reduces the frequency of replacements. This aligns with economic sustainability by promoting long-lasting solutions, which are beneficial for both the company and the customers.

Product Innovation

We design and innovate products with sustainability at the forefront, focusing on modular profiles that require minimal fixings and typically avoid the need for glues or adhesives. These products support industry professionals in achieving certifications for building rating schemes.

Sustainable supply chain

We partner with suppliers who share our eco-friendly values, prioritising ethical sourcing and minimising our carbon footprint. This dedication strengthens our commitment to sustainability across every step of our production process.

A Continued Commitment

Social Sustainability

Ethical Sourcing of Aluminum

We are committed to offsetting the environmental impact of aluminium production by sourcing our aluminium responsibly. We use suppliers that adhere to ethical labor practices and strict environmental standards, with a strong focus on sustainability and a proven rehabilitation program for affected environmental areas.

Employee Health and Safety

To minimise health risks associated with aluminium production and fabrication, we prioritize rigorous safety measures, enforce the use of protective equipment, and provide regular training to ensure a safe working environment.

Community Engagement

We actively participate in local sustainability initiatives by supporting green building projects, providing guidance on sustainable installation methods, and working to achieve essential certifications and compliance standards.

Partnering with Landcare Australia

Knotwood has proudly partnered with Landcare Australia to support local environmental projects and conservation efforts. This collaboration supports initiatives that contribute to the restoration and protection of natural landscapes.

Governance and Ethical Practices

Transparent Reporting and Certifications.

Green building projects, including those pursuing LEED certification, often require documented proof of sustainable sourcing and manufacturing. We offer transparent sustainability reporting to support achieving high certification ratings.

Compliance with Environmental Standards.

Our production methods align with regulatory and environmental standards specific to the aluminum industry, such as those focused on emissions, waste disposal, and material sourcing.

Product Lifecycle and Circular Economy

Modular and Repairable Designs

We develop products with modular components or standardized sizes to allow parts to be replaced or upgraded rather than disposing of an entire unit. This approach is sustainable and provides customers with long-term value.

Take-back and Recycling Programs

We have implemented a take-back program where end-of-life aluminium products are returned and recycled into new products creating a closed-loop system, reducing waste and reliance on raw materials.
