Fixed aluminium louvres are a set-and-forget system: the blade angle is fixed in place, engineered to deliver permanent privacy and solar shading exactly where a project needs it, with nothing to adjust and nothing to maintain beyond the system’s natural low upkeep. For screens where the requirement doesn’t change through the day or the season, that simplicity is the whole point.
This system is a strong fit for privacy screens where the sightline to be blocked doesn’t change, and partition applications needing a permanent, low-maintenance light and privacy solution.
Fixed Louvres share the same aluminium construction, concealed fixings and architectural-grade finishes as the rest of Knotwood’s louvre range. Fasteners are 304 or 316 grade stainless steel, with hot-dip galvanised permitted outside marine zones. The fixed blade has no moving parts or mechanism to service, which is what makes it the lowest-maintenance option in the range.
Fixed Louvres come in two confirmed blade profiles: a Geometric Slat at 65 x 16mm and a wider Shutter Blade at 88mm, each installing into a routed frame (65mm or 88mm to match) with a top/bottom frame and infill closing out the assembly.
Once the slats are secured to the side frames, the Infill (KEIS) fits over the join to hide every fixing used to hold the Geometric Slat in place, leaving a clean, fastener-free face on the finished frame.
Inspiration
On one of Burleigh’s most coveted streets, this modern coastal home layers Knotwood aluminium battens and tumbled silver travertine to create refined depth. White Ash battens unify screens, garage doors, ceilings and awnings, adding texture, privacy and sun protection, while seamlessly connecting interior and exterior living spaces.
Vary the spacing between battens to adjust privacy and ventilation.
Mix and match different timber colours to create realistic and dynamic timber looks.
Install vertically or horizontally to suit your project’s flow and architectural intent.
Knotwood fixed aluminium louvres are available with two blade types: the 65 x 16mm Geometric Slat and the 88mm Blade. Each blade type has its own routed frame system (65mm or 88mm frames), allowing panels to be specified to match the visual scale of the project. The 65mm slat gives a finer, more traditional louvre appearance, the 88mm blade provides a bolder, more contemporary aesthetic.
Fixed aluminium louvres have permanently angled blades with no moving parts, providing a consistent level of privacy, shade and airflow without any adjustment mechanism. Operable Louvres allow blade angle adjustment via a control bar. Fixed Louvres are simpler to install, require less maintenance, and suit projects where consistent shade direction and privacy are needed without daily adjustment.
Aluminium is corrosion resistant, which is why it is commonly specified near the coast where salt air accelerates the deterioration of steel and untreated timber. How a finish performs depends on how close the site is to breaking surf, the exposure of the elevation and the cleaning regime. Grade 316 stainless steel fasteners are required for marine zone installations. Send us your site location and we will confirm the right finish, the fixing specification and the maintenance schedule for that exposure.
Fixed Louvres are available in solid powder coated colours and in timber-look aluminium finishes, with a wood grain surface over a powder coated base. That is the same architectural-grade finish range used across the Knotwood product line, so louvres can be matched to cladding, screens or battens on the same project. The full range is on our finishes page.
Fixed Louvres are manufactured from extruded aluminium, which is non-combustible, and are tested to AS 1530.1 and AS/NZS 1530.3 for combustibility and early fire hazard properties. Bushfire construction is assessed against AS 3959 using the Bushfire Attack Level for your site, and compliance is determined by the assembly rather than the material alone. Send us your BAL rating and the application details and our technical team will confirm what we can supply.
Both orientations are used. Horizontal blades are the more common arrangement on a facade, where the blade angle is set to intercept the sun at the height it matters. Vertical blades suit an elevation where the low morning or afternoon sun is the problem, or where the design calls for a vertical rhythm. The frame and infill system is the same in both cases. Send us your elevation and orientation and our technical team will confirm the setout and the blade angle to suit.
Fixed aluminium louvres are assembled as a complete modular panel before installation. Blades are secured into left and right routed frames, a top and bottom frame is added, and an infill strip conceals all fixings to produce a clean, fastener-free face. The completed panel is then placed into the prepared structural opening. Because there are no moving parts, the assembly is simpler than an operable system and there is nothing to commission once it is in.
Backed by a standard 15 year warranty and up to 25 years on selected finishes. See our warranty page for the terms that apply to this profile.
The angle is worked out from the orientation of the elevation and the sun path for your location, then fixed at fabrication. On a west-facing facade the blades are typically set to block the low afternoon sun while still allowing a view out and light in at other times of day. On a privacy screen, the angle is set from the sightline you need to block and the position it is viewed from, rather than from the sun. Because the angle is permanent, it is worth resolving early: a fixed system that suits the elevation outperforms an operable one nobody adjusts. Send us your elevation, orientation and location and our technical team will recommend the blade and the angle.
