Shadow Line cladding is a board profile that sits with a defined reveal between each run, casting a horizontal shadow along the facade. Knotwood’s Shadow Line is adjustable: the same board delivers either that shadow detail or a clean, flat finish, giving a facade quiet rhythm without competing with the rest of the design. Available in four sizes, so one profile suits anything from a subtle feature strip to a full elevation.
Shadow Line works equally well as the primary finish on a new build or as a considered match to an existing facade on a renovation. The horizontal profile reads as considered rather than overtly modern, so it doesn’t clash with an older building’s existing lines, and it suits contemporary residential and commercial facades where clean horizontal lines are already part of the design language.
Shadow Line shares the same aluminium construction, concealed fixings and architectural-grade finishes as the rest of Knotwood’s cladding range. It’s non-combustible, corrosion resistant and low maintenance, holding up through the same sun, rain and daily wear as every other profile in the system, no guesswork about how it will sit against what’s already there.
Shadow Line comes in four sizes, 100mm, 150mm, 200mm and 300mm, so the same profile can suit anything from a subtle feature strip to a full elevation. Boards install with an interlocking fixing system in 6500mm lengths, and a ventilated option is available where airflow behind the facade matters.
Vertical runs use the same interlocking system as a horizontal application, just installed left to right instead of top to bottom, so the finish stays consistent whichever orientation the design calls for.
Each board hooks into the one below it and locks onto a concealed clip, building the run from the base trim up with no visible fixings on the finished face.
An interlocking starter trim sets the base line for the run. Every board that follows hooks into place from there, keeping the first course straight and secure.
A base trim goes in first around the perimeter, then a cover trim presses over it once the boards are installed, for a clean, finished edge with no exposed fixings.
Reversible corner trims handle both external and internal junctions. Boards run into the corner and a cover trim presses into place over the join for a seamless, mitre-free finish.
Inspiration
The Finn is anchored in its coastal setting. Venetian render recalls the softness of sand beneath bare feet, while enduring travertine reflects the strength of the headland.
Inspiration
At Pearl Street, curved exterior screens and softened walls establish a calm, sculptural rhythm. Silver Wattle tones extend across screens and garage doors, balanced by a natural stone wall.
Inspiration
Arthouse embodies coastal luxury in its purest form, a newly built three-level masterpiece with panoramic Atlantic Ocean views. Designed for an unforgettable Cornish escape, it showcases premium finishes throughout.
Boards can be spaced apart to open up the reveal between them for a deeper shadow effect.
Combine different board sizes to craft a distinctive look.
Mix and match different timber colours to create realistic and dynamic timber looks.
Our 100mm boards can flex around curved surfaces, opening up creative possibilities for unique and organic designs.
Shadow line cladding is an aluminium cladding profile where each board sits with a defined recessed reveal along its length, creating a continuous horizontal shadow line across the facade. The effect gives a building quiet depth and rhythm without a heavy textured look. Knotwood’s Shadow Line profile delivers this in a non-combustible, low-maintenance aluminium system with architectural-grade timber-look finishes.
Shadow Line sits in the middle of Knotwood’s cladding range in terms of visual weight. It has more depth and definition than a flush board but is more restrained than the V Line, castellated or dimensional profiles. The horizontal shadow reveal is subtle: it adds a contemporary look without the bold texture or open-joint gap that more expressive profiles create. It is a strong choice when the brief calls for a clean, considered finish.
Shadow Line comes in four board widths: 100mm, 150mm, 200mm and 300mm. Boards are supplied in 6500mm lengths and install with an interlocking fixing system. A ventilated option is available where airflow behind the facade matters. The 100mm board can flex around curved surfaces.
Yes. Knotwood aluminium cladding profiles, including Shadow Line, are non-combustible. Shadow Line is tested to AS 1530.1 and AS/NZS 1530.3 for combustibility and early fire hazard properties, and carries a Group One classification under AS 5637.1. Group Numbers are what the National Construction Code uses to set where a lining material can be used. For projects with formal compliance requirements, send us your building class and we will confirm the documentation for your project. Refer to our resources section for more information.
Knotwood cladding carries a standard 15 year warranty, with up to 25 years on selected finishes. The term that applies depends on the finish specified, and the full terms and conditions are set out on our warranty page. If you need warranty documentation for a submission or for a client, send us the request and we will supply it.
Knotwood does not publish fixed pricing, because cladding is quoted on specification. The main variables are the board size, the finish, the total area and the trims the detail requires. Shadow Line uses a range of starters, corners and cover trims, and those matter to the final figure as much as the boards do. Send us your elevations and we will quote it.
Shadow Line Cladding is available in traditional solid powder coated colours and in a sublimated timber grain surface, the same architectural-grade finish range used across the Knotwood cladding system. That means Shadow Line can be specified alongside other Knotwood profiles on the same facade with a consistent finish. The full range is on our finishes page.
Shadow Line uses the same interlocking system as the wider Knotwood cladding range. An interlocking starter trim sets the base line, then each board hooks into the one below it and locks onto a concealed clip, so there are no visible fixings on the finished face. A base trim goes in around the perimeter first and a cover trim presses over it once the boards are installed. Reversible corner trims handle both external and internal junctions. The system runs vertically or horizontally using the same components. Substrate types, batten spacing and the full installation guide are in our resources section.
Shadow Line Cladding suits contemporary residential and commercial facades where clean horizontal lines are part of the design language. It works equally well as the primary finish on a new build or as a considered match to an existing facade on a renovation. Because the shadow reveal is subtle rather than bold, it sits comfortably alongside other materials and does not impose a heavy architectural statement on a building.
Yes. Shadow Line is particularly well suited to renovations because the horizontal profile is contemporary without being so overtly modern that it clashes with an older building’s structure. The shadow reveal gives a facade a considered, updated look without breaking the building’s connection to what it was. The aluminium system also means no concern about the new cladding behaving differently to the existing structure as both respond to weather and temperature over time.
