Queensland Small Business Month Spotlight: Knotwood

This May, the Queensland Government celebrated Knotwood as part of Queensland Small Business Month, and we couldn’t be prouder to be recognised alongside some of the state’s most passionate and driven businesses.

Knotwood began as a family venture. Co-founders Darren and Brendan Galway started out in powder coating, delivering high-quality finishes for architectural and residential projects across Queensland. Working closely with the industry, they identified a gap. Aluminium systems that were genuinely easier to assemble, with no visible fixings, no welding, and no complex installation. So they designed their own.

What followed was more than a product range. It became a philosophy: innovation driven by real-world feedback from architects, designers, builders, and end users. Systems that are clean, versatile, durable, and low-maintenance. Finishes that bring the warmth of timber without the upkeep. And a commitment to Australian-owned, Australian-made manufacturing that hasn’t wavered since day one.

Today, Knotwood systems are specified and installed across Australia and in markets around the world. It’s a long way from a powder coating shed in Queensland, and it’s a journey that’s far from over.
